Lemmy started gliding 1955 and went solo in 1956 with Air Cadets. He gained his PPL in 1957 before joining the RAF in 1959 where he stayed until 1971. He was a Helicopter pilot between 1972-2002 before he retired to allow himself to explore gliding sites around the world.
