Sponsors
This inauguaral UK Grand Prix could not have happened without the help of the sponsors. Thanks goes to EW Avionics and Soaring Safaris for their sponsorship of the overall prizes (more on that to follow) and to Derek Taylor of North Yorkshire Sailplanes for sponsorship of the daily prizes.
Itsawingthing.com and Launchpoint.co.uk have sponsored the website.
A special thanks to the members of the Cambridge Gliding Centre (www.glide.co.uk) at Gransden Lodge for allowing this unique event to take place.
After 2 days the results are very close and it is sure to lead to an exciting end of the week battle. Worth coming along to......
Gliding GP Scoring
This is a unique soaring event which requires a unique scoring system.
The scoring system has been agreed by the International Gliding Commission (IGC) and the link to the scoring rules can be found in the Documents and Rules tab above.
In simple terms, you only score if you finish the task, however, there are discretionary bonus points awarded for achieving secondary objectives; such as being round the 2nd turning point first.
The winner gets an additional bonus point. So, for example, if you have only 6 competitors finishing the scoring would be 6pts to the winner plus a bonus point (7pts), 5pts for 2nd place and 4pts for 3rd place and so on. Only a maximum of ten points can be awarded so if everyone gets back only the top 9 gets points. Easy!!!!!
